Writings Past {Blogging Challenge Day 21}

9:26 PM 0 Comments
What a fun trip down memory lane today in our Blog Every Day in May challenge

Day 21: A list of links to your favorite posts in your archives.

Since I am relatively new to the blogging world (less than 3 years), I am still constantly revamping my posts and writing style. Since I don't have any posts that scream FAVORITE simply due to post content, I will share a few from favorite times in my life!

-When I first starting maintaining my blog and writing consistently, I wrote a series called "Meet the Furmans" where readers got to know my little family. When I look back at these posts, I am reminded of a more simple time in life (read: before home ownership and parenthood)! You can check them out here, here, here and over here :)

-I love to travel, and one of my favorite trips was to Savannah, GA. It's not an exotic island, and it's only 5 hours away, but it's a culturally rich city and there is so much to do! I put a lot of research into our trips, so I always refer friends to my posts if they are looking for the place to eat/thing to do in Savannah. We really enjoyed celebrating our one year anniversary there. Follow our trip starting with Day One

-I love this post about our new home! What a huge milestone in my adult life! Although we haven't made huge changes in our home, it's nice to see where we started and how much we actually have done.

-Our pregnancy announcement. Duh

-A little throwback for husband and me. We were so cute :)

-I love re-reading the story of Peyton's birth. This is what a blog is all about, right? To journal your life and remember every detail of the milestones. I remember the incredible mix of emotions I was feeling that day. Wow, what a day!

I really feel like I could go on and on, possible including every monthly update from our little P! I think we have plenty of reading material. Enjoy!

Let's Get Real {Blogging Challenge Day 20}

6:00 AM 0 Comments
Today in the Blog Every Day in May challenge, let's get real.

Day 20: Get Real. Share something you're struggling with right now.

Well, there are quite a few things I'm struggling with. Not that my life is so difficult...I just feel that I always have things on my plate, and things I'm juggling.

Right now, I am struggling big time with weight loss. I just don't have the motivation. There was a point where I loved going to the gym, and I wouldn't eat anything without counting the points. But life happens...work happens...a baby happens. And here I am, putting my weight as a last priority. I'll get there-mainly because I remember what it feels like to be thin, and I want to be in that place again!
I just need to start...

  What are you struggling with?

Blog Love {Blogging Challenge Day 19}

9:25 PM 0 Comments
Today in our challenge, I get to show some blog love!

 Day 19: Five of your favorite blogs and what you love about them.

Kate & Kuby
 An adorable blog written by a childhood friend. Kate showcases some awesome DIY projects on a budget. I am so exited to follow her upcoming adoption journey!

Pinstrosity
When I need a good laugh, I peruse this blog. The authors post about Pinterest projects gone wrong. Hilarious.

This Cup Overflows
I featured this blog on Day 5, but it stands true that I am always checking in on Ashley! I miss her all the time, so it's nice to keep in touch.

The Rutledge Family
Another college friend and sorority sister of mine, Jessica and I lost touch for a few years, but I have loved getting to know her again through her blog! In watching her manage a house with 3 kiddos, I have picked up quite a few tips!

Six Sisters' Stuff
I absolutely love the recipes from this blog! The categories are easy to navigate-I can click on 'chicken' and find tons of easy, fast and super tasty recipes! I haven't ventured into the craft side of the blog, but I'm sure it's great, too.

Check out some of my favorites and show your love, too!

Playing Catch Up {Blogging Challenge Days 16, 17, and 18}

More catch up! Check in here to see why I'm behind on our challenge :)

Day 16: Something difficult about your "lot in life" and how you're working to overcome it.
Yikes, this one is difficult! I've been thinking pretty hard on this one! I've had such a blessed life, and if you asked me 10 years ago to picture myself today, I would be right here in this place- a wonderful husband, a great home, and a beautiful daughter.

Yes, I have difficulties- finances, my weight, lack of decorating skills..but who doesn't have something difficult in life? I'm always working to overcome something...it keeps me on my toes!

Day 17: A favorite photo of yourself and why

Y'all, I'm one of those crazy people that loved being pregnant. I have never felt better about my body image...and I don't know why. Perhaps because I didn't have to worry about 'sucking it in' or maybe it's because I was growing a human inside me! Whatever the reason, I remember feeling great about myself...and this photo captures that happiness!

Day 18: Tell a story from your childhood.

I clearly remember relocating to Alpharetta when I was 9. I was moving away from Memphis, and everything I knew. I had to leave my school, my friends, my extended family, and my home. My sense of comfort was shattered.
I realize this may seem like an incredibly unpleasant childhood memory, and at one time, it was! I was hurt, and actually quite mad at my parents. But I decided that I could either remain miserable, or put some effort towards making a new life. I chose the latter. I made new friends; I started to enjoy my school, neighborhood and home.
Fortunately, I haven't faced too much heartache in my life, but I know that when I do, I have the strength to overcome!

Playing Catch up {Blogging Challenge Days 14 and 15}

5:27 PM 0 Comments
Wow, I am super behind on our challenge!
It all started with a sinus infection...then there was a bad reaction to an antibiotic, and now I'm on the mend! I basically fell of the face of the earth for a short time.

Day 14: Ten things that make you really happy. I realize this list isn't super creative, but it's what makes me happy : )

1. Coffee
2. Breakfast
3. A good book
4. A clean house
5. Cuddles from Peyton (so rare these days)
6. Naptime
7. Popcorn
8. Pedicures
9. My family
10. My friends

Day 15: A Day in the Life

Since my days at home aren't unique, I will give you a little taste of my days at work!

5:00am- Alarm goes off and I snooze
5:10- Alarm goes off again and I force myself out of bed. A whole 7 hours of sleep! I throw on some makeup and my scrubs.

6:00am- I sit down to pump, which makes me suuuper tired again.
6:15am- I finish up pumping, fix my breakfast, coffee, and lunch.
6:30am- I run through my mental checklist of things I need for my 13 hours away from home, then leave for work. I think about how thankful I am that I only live 5 miles away from work.

6:45am- I get to work, put away all my stuff, then settle down to get report on my patients.
7:30am- After report, I check my charts.
8:00am- I begin rounds.
 *From here, my work day is pretty unpredictable. I usually chart after I make rounds, which takes me about 30 minutes per couplet. If I'm discharging a patient, add an hour of work. If I get an admission, that's another hour of work.

Around 1:30pm- I eat lunch in the pump room...time for more milking!

7:00pm- I stagger into the report room, so happy to see the next shift come in. It's been a long day!
 7:30pm- I start the process of leaving; if my patients are being especially needy that day, I might not leave until 8:00pm.

~8:15pm- I drag myself into the house. My WONDERFUL husband hands me dinner and a baby. I eat while nursing P, then tuck her in. Her bedtime is usually 7:30, but if she doesn't stay up a little late, I won't see her at all that day!

I wash pump parts, pack lunch for tomorrow, and shower.
10:00pm- I fall into bed, set my alarm for 5:00am, and thank God that I only have to do this 3 days a week :)

First day of work after maternity leave

Hope you enjoyed our day!

A Future Apology {Blogging Challenge Day 13}

6:00 AM 0 Comments
Well, this is an interesting topic in our challenge. I had to get pretty creative with this one, but I am quite pleased with what I ended up with.

Day 13: Issue a public apology.

A Future Apology to my Daughter
Dear Peyton,
     I am writing this letter of apology to help you prepare for life as my teenage daughter.

There will be times that I embarrass you, and I'm sorry for the short term harm it may cause you. But in the long run, it will help you build character.

There will be outfits that I will not approve of, despite how cute you think they are. I'm sorry you can't wear them when all of your other friends are. I want you to learn respect for your body, and baring it all is not the way to do it.

There will be activities you will want to be involved in, and I will tell you to pick one or two. I'm sorry that you can't juggle 4 after-school activities. As important as they are, I want you to value school and your grades just as much.

There will be parties you will beg to go to, and I'm going to a) say no or b) call every parent involved in the party to understand the whereabouts of my child. I'm sorry if this upsets you, but you'll soon learn that friends define us.

There will be times that I just simply say 'no' to whatever you are requesting. I'm sorry if when this makes you angry. I am your mother first and your friend second, and I need to protect you from this world for as long as possible.
Know that I love you...and for that (and everything it entails), I will never be sorry :)

Love,
Mom

My Granny {Blogging Challenge Day 12}

9:17 PM 2 Comments
Today in our Blog Every Day in May challenge, you'll get to meet my wonderful Granny.

Day 12: What do you miss?
My Granny was such a sweet lady with a warm heart. She opened her home up to anyone, and always put herself last. All of my friends called her Granny...I doubt they even knew her real name.
I was her favorite. Ask anyone.
Some of my most fond memories of Granny were sleepovers where we would sit in bed, eat popcorn and drink milk (?) and watch a) Memphis Tigers basketball  b) Mama's Family or c) Walker, Texas Ranger.

I lost Granny as a sophomore in college, and I wish that I had asked her more about her life. What a historian she was!
