The New ME!

12:12 PM 0 Comments
I feel like a new person!
My transition to day shift has been effortless. I enjoy waking up at 5:30 AM (rather than PM), basking in the peace and quiet of my house, sipping on coffee, then heading to work. Yes, day shift is MUCH busier...more discharges, admissions, doctor rounds, procedures, phone calls, etc. but I find that I am actually awake and alert to complete these tasks. It's amazing how much I can accomplish when my mind is functioning at full capacity.
I love coming home in the evenings to spend some time with Ben and the furry kids, then going to BED...at NIGHT! Wow

Everyone has been so awesome on days-helping me deal with things I am not used to. I'm sure we will all grow closer as the weeks pass (and maybe after summer aka 'baby season' is over). But...I do miss my night shift peers a lot. It makes me so sad to think I won't be there to listen to the new drama unfolding in their lives. I am making a conscious effort to keep in touch with everyone.

My new plans for the new ME? Well...get back on track with WW of course! I have fallen off the wagon in a bad way, but the month of May was so crazy busy that I couldn't properly devote myself to anything. I now have more time to focus on eating better, and...exercising! YAY!

(Apologies for the rambling-I am so excited and my mind is racing)

Angie's Wedding

I had a great time in Nashville last weekend. Angie was the most laid back, organized and calm bride I have ever seen!

On Thursday, I headed to Chattanooga and met up with Ashley and Jordan to hitch a ride to Nashville. (Ben had to work, and I really don't like driving by myself to Nashville). I spent the night with Ashley at her Mom's house in Murfreesboro while Jordan headed to Boston to go to a Red Sox game.
On Friday, the beautiful bride treated us to pedicures, then back to her Mom's house for a luncheon and some girl time!

After our luncheon, it was off to the rehearsal, then to Carrabba's for din din! We loved making Angie's rehearsal bouquet!

After dinner, we decided to head to our hotel for a little relaxing and reminiscing...and celebrating Angie's last night as a single lady!
On the BIG DAY, Angie woke up early and began watching the weather...which was questionable for rain (literally, the news had a rain cloud with a big question mark over it..thanks for your help!). As it turns out, we had a terrible downpour of rain for about 30 minutes...which cleared up in time for the ceremony!
She managed some breakfast, then it was off to pick up her gown and final honeymoon packing : )

We headed to The Carnton Plantation for final preparations! Angie was so calm and collected through it all. What a beautiful bride!! I will leave you with some pictures of the event.

Angie, I wish you all the happiness in the world! It was an honor to stand by you on your special day.

Maya's Family Day

On May 15th, we have another reason to celebrate besides our anniversary. On May 15, 2003, Maya officially joined our family!
The first time I met her!

Maya, I have loved having you as a little sister. I wished for one my whole life and you were a miracle that came in to our family. You are kind and generous, goofy and fun to be around. You are SO smart and love learning new things. I can't wait to see where you go in life!

Savannah: Day 4

On Sunday morning, we had a delicious artichoke quiche, roasted potatoes, sausage links, and a slice of watermelon. We finished packing our bags and saying goodbye to everyone. I snapped a few pictures of the inn.

After checking out, we walked back to River St. to enjoy some shops and even more sightseeing!
This is a spot along River St. where you stand and your voice sounds like you are speaking through a megaphone. There are some low walls, but otherwise no apparent reason why this happens. But it is SO cool! (Across from the Life is Good store)

Back in the car for our road trip home (and NO tickets!). Sunday was our actual anniversary (May 15)- I couldn't believe that we were already celebrating one year! I told Ben that I felt like we have done some math wrong along the way and we couldn't possibly be at one year!
A little back story: We had a morning ceremony and reception (10:30am) for our wedding. By the time we left, drove to Atlanta and checked in to our hotel for our "mini-moon" we were exhausted! When deciding where to go for our wedding night dinner, the thought of getting dressed up and fancy was not appealing. So, we figured we should take in all of the city of Atlanta and eat at The Varsity. : )

On our way home from from Savannah, we had to stop in at The Varsity to enjoy an anniversary dinner. We ordered the same meal, and ate in the same room.

Eating the top layer of our cake. To our surprise, it was moist (not crunchy!) and very tasty.

Well, that wraps up our trip to Savannah. It was such a great way to celebrate one year of marriage and we hope to go back again.
Special thanks to my MIL for taking care of the girls while we were away and to my Mom for taking Rowen to the beauty shop!

Savannah: Day 3

We woke up Saturday morning (feeling great!) and headed up for breakfast. We enjoyed very fresh strawberries, scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, sausage links, and some kind of corn casserole. Heaven!
We hopped in the car and made the short drive to Bonaventure Cemetery-the largest of Savannah's cemeteries. This is 160 acres of the dead..

Johnny Mercer's grave

Typical for Bonaventure

When space and money was limited, they built caskets large enough to fit the body only. It made me so sad to see these tiny burial plots.

Often, you can see pebbles placed on the headstones. This is a Jewish tradition, to indicate the continued participation in the burial of loved ones.

After we explored much of the cemetery, it was back in the car for the short trip to Tybee Island-Savannah's beach community. We parked and got out to explore a bit..aaaand 5 minutes later were caught in a torrential downpour. So, back in the car!

Our experience of Tybee Island

When we got back to the inn, we enjoyed some downtime before getting ready for dinner. We made reservations at Alligator Soul for our anniversary dinner. Because I was not up to walking a mile in heels, we called a Savannah Pedicab to take us to dinner.

(Ok, I cheated and googled this picture...but this actually was our driver that night!)
I enjoyed shrimp & grits and Ben had the gumbo-yum!
They even celebrated our anniversary with a little gift (chocolate covered cherries inside). I had to take a picture of this - Ben had a hard time making the reservation-it seemed that the host couldn't hear him at all. Clearly...

After dinner, we changed then headed back to Savannah Smiles. Thursday night was a lot of fun here, so we thought Saturday would be even better!

These boots are made for walkin'...

On the way we enjoyed some Leopold's Ice Cream- yummy!

On our walk to Savannah Smiles, we found this plaque in one of the many squares: "...George Washington attended services at the original Christ Church on Sunday, May 15. While in Savannah from May 12-15..."

Name that tune!

Saturday was WAY busier than Thursday night here...probably about 150 more people than before. It was still fun, but became so crowded. We left after a couple of hours.

Rather than walking, we took the PediCab back to the inn!
Back to the inn for our last night : (
